BYEM is a London-based clothing brand born out of the desire to unite timeless style with ethics and sustainability. Their collection is for a modern woman who wants to simplify her wardrobe; the designs, influenced by Scandinavian heritage, is a mix of minimalism, bold shapes, textures and classic aesthetic.
BYEM was founded in 2016 by Emilia. After spending most of her life down the fast fashion track she decided to work for a change in the industry, motivated by her grandmother who worked with organic and ethical farming.
BYEM aims to minimise their environmental impact by working with sustainably certified suppliers, and their entire supply chain is GOTS-certified. By choosing GOTS-certified textiles they ensure that their manufacturing process from seed to garment is kinder to both the environment and to people. You can learn more about why BYEM decided to become GOTS certified HERE. In order to maximise their ethical contribution, BYEM only partners with companies who provide fair working conditions and who can prove that their supply chain is free of child and slave labour. BYEM also plants a tree in South Sudan with every order shipped through the Swedish international aid organisation Läkarmissionen.
BYEM’s consciously-curated collections are made as limited edition designs. All of their pieces are made in one batch and then never made again in the same colour or textile. Their collections are made in this way to advocate personal style in an era of mass production.
A few weeks ago Holly of Leotie Lovely and I caught up in London to talk about our much loved BYEM pieces.
Holly wore the Alma Sweater, which is manufactured in Portugal with cotton sourced from Turkey. This beautiful garment has a box shaped body with tight sleeves that flare at the bottom. It is the perfect day-to-night piece that can be paired up with a cute pair of jeans or dressed up for an evening outing.
I wore the Etta Flare Midi Dress, which is also made in Portugal, with sateen sourced from Turkey and dyed in Austria. This stunning skirt is one of the pieces that I am most looking forward to fitting into again after pregnancy. The luxurious navy sateen is an all-year colour that can be both dressed up or down – and I cannot wait to pair it up with a cute pair of boots this winter!
I have absolutely fallen in love with BYEM’s elegant collection and cannot wait to see what designs they will produce next.
